We all have been there when we want to start a healthy lifestyle journey and bring positivity to our lives, but for some reason our health always ends up taking the back seat. And responsibilities, work load and engagements with relatives or friends drives our day. This is something that is common in most of the population now-a-days. Although, you and I really want to make a difference for ourselves; for our bodies; for our minds. But with all those struggling diets, excessive workout routines, reading at least 10 pages a day and what not, looks like a ton while managing family, friends and workload, right? What if I say we can start our healthy lifestyle journey with tiny baby steps? AND it is going to make a huge impact? You read that right! One small difference at a time which is not even going to seem significant in the moment, can compound into remarkable change over time. These itty-bitty habits that, if you include in your regular lifestyle, yield amazing results in the long run are termed as “Micro Habits”.
Now, why the delay? Let’s leap into action and commence our journey towards a healthier lifestyle!
1. Track your water intake
Now, I know you have heard it a lot but this is a gold mine in your journey towards a healthy lifestyle. DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER DAILY! Water plays a very crucial role in everything around you. It controls your weight, your mood, your skin, your brain, your hair, even your speed of completing a task! Some people say you should drink 8 glasses of water(which is about 2-3 litres), some people say you should drink one-tenth of your weight. I feel there’s no one-size-fit-all quantity. I recommend people to read the signs. Your body continuously tells you what it needs at that moment. Listen to it. If you can’t figure out what the signs are, here are a few of many I have mentioned that worked for me and there’s a good chance that they are going to work for you as well.
2. Make your home cooked food taste better
How can a home cooked food compete with that cheesy, soft sauce, crunchy crust pizza? I bet it can 🙂 It’s all about the right amount of heat and perfect ingredients and that is going to taste just as (if not better) your restaurant food and it will be much healthier. I am planning a series of recipes containing spells to do this magic to your food(Here are a few hacks you can include in your daily cooking to add an extra flavour). Meanwhile, I want to drop a few recommendations. You can go through their pages and find out for yourselves what healthy scrumptious food looks like 😉
Is that a drool? 🤣.
3. Track your expenses
Tracking your spending is a crucial step towards understanding your finances. By monitoring where your money goes, you can identify and control unnecessary expenses. You always wanted to buy your own dreamy house, right? But reaching your goal is too hard to achieve? I can assure you if you keep track of your expenses and examine where you are overspending and can be cut off and how you can save money by evaluating 2-3 months of expenses you will be able to gradually reach your goal. It is not going to happen in a month or two but your dream won’t seem unachievable. This is an article that I found that is easy to understand and helped me understand my expenses in a very simple way. Give it a read.
4. Set aside an hour for your hobby at least once a week
Where is that soul who once used to enjoy dancing, singing, pottery, painting or puzzle solving? Why is it lost in a daily grind? Don’t you think if you re-introduce that soul, you are going to rejuvenate your life that has become dull lately due to which you don’t seem interested in doing anything at all? Enjoying your hobby at least once a week resets your mind by detoxicating you with the mundane tasks and gives you a little zeal to complete your day to day task without burning out.
5. Flirt with yourself
This part of the day is my favourite. I know I have a million flaws. But who doesn’t? And what are flaws exactly? Who defined flaws? If a person is different from other people, how is that a flaw? Aren’t we all supposed to be different? Even identical twins are different from each other to some extent. Then what are flaws? We are just different from each other. That should not stop us from being proud of ourselves. I like to have a little flirtatious relationship with myself. I like to impress myself by dressing up for me. I like to paint my nails and show them off to me. I compliment myself. Whenever I see myself in the mirror I wink and always say something flirtatious and smile(laugh sometimes). This gives you positivity about yourself. When you feel good about yourself you project that energy onto other people. Other people are going to you as you see and show yourself. If you are curvy and you like it and enjoy being curvy, people around you will think curvy makes you beautiful. If you are slim you project yourself that you enjoy your current body(if you do) and other people around will enjoy that too. So go ahead, flirt with yourself. Take yourself out for a dinner date. Dress up for yourself. Buy yourself some flowers. Compliment yourself. Is it so hard to do?
Did you see starting your journey to a healthy lifestyle isn’t that hard, right? Before I sign off, I want to give a little tip about the above micro habits. You don’t have to do all of the above all at once. Start with one of the above habits. Get comfortable with it. And when you start enjoying it, introduce another one. That way this is not going to seem too much to do and you will enjoy every bit of it. Also keep in mind, you are not doing this because you have to. You are doing this because you love yourself and you want to do good things to yourself so that you enjoy life as much as you wish to.
¡Hasta la vista, amigos! Wait for my next (even more interesting) post 😀
